What Are Microgreens?

Small in size. Big on flavor. Remarkable nutritional potential.
Microgreens are young edible plants prized for fresh flavor, vibrant color, texture, and versatility.
In a landmark 2012 USDA Agricultural Research Service/University of Maryland study, researchers analyzed 25 microgreen varieties. The study found that microgreens generally contained higher concentrations of the vitamins and carotenoids studied than their mature counterparts. A University of Maryland summary reported 4 to 40 times higher levels of certain nutrients, depending on the variety and nutrient measured. USDA later summarized the findings as, in general, about five times higher levels of vitamins and carotenoids.
At Pine and Pea Microgreens, freshness is part of the value. Our microgreens are grown locally, harvested for your Friday delivery, kept refrigerated for freshness, and delivered directly to your door.
Add them to eggs, sandwiches, wraps, salads, pasta, soups, avocado toast, smoothies, and more for fresh flavor, color, and crunch.
We use carefully selected seed, including certified organic seed when available and verified. Pine and Pea Microgreens is not certified organic.
Nutrient levels vary by variety and growing and handling conditions. The research does not mean every microgreen contains 4–40 times more of every nutrient.
Microgreens are one of the most versatile and flavor-packed foods you can keep in your kitchen. Their vibrant colors, fresh taste, and variety of textures and flavors make them the perfect finishing touch — or even the star of the plate.
Sprinkle them over salads for a fresh crunch, layer them into sandwiches and wraps, toss them into smoothies, or use them to garnish soups, omelets, and pastas. With so many textures and flavors — from mild and nutty to bold and spicy — there’s a microgreen for every dish.
Once you start adding them to your meals, you’ll realize the possibilities are endless. That’s why we’ve put together a free Microgreens Recipe Book filled with our favorite easy, delicious ideas to help you get started.
